The Mini Farmhouse Project

The Mini Farmhouse Project is my attempt to build a dollhouse from scratch from a kit and decorate and design in a contemporary eclectic colorful artsy style! I will be documenting the entire process here on the blog – from ordering it online to waiting anxiously patiently for it to arrive to building it with my Dad and then the fun part of decorating!

Note: I will be updating this page with a TON of pictures and the gallery as soon as the kit arrives and we get started in building it!

About The Kit – Real Good Toys Vermont Farmhouse Jr. Kit

vermontdollhouse1I spent A LOT of time researching various dollhouse kits online. What I learned is there are two main types – those made of really super thin brittle plywood, and those made with MDF such as the ones made by the brand Real Good Toys. MDF {which stands for Medium Density Fiberboard} is like wood – but it’s thicker and a bit stronger than the thin brittle plywood.

I Choose Real Good Toys Brand for these reasons:

Easier Construction & Assembly: I don’t expect it to go together without some effort, but most people said it could be put together in 5-6 hours, which sounded a lot better than 60 hours of trying to work with the plywood kits.

Durability: I want a dollhouse I can use for many years to come with my own kids and maybe even someday my grandkids! These kits while not entirely “museum quality” – they are sturdier and you have hopes for making an heirloom keepsake piece with them that can be loved for generations.

Reviews: Mostly 4 & 5 star reviews, which means a lot to me.

Price: Found it on sale online with a 40% off coupon – you simply can’t beat that!

Floorplan: I wanted a dollhouse that had a nice floor plan that would allow for plenty of space for creative ideas. I liked that this one has a three section attic, which is going to be a fun spot to decorate!

All in all, I’m really excited by this kit and can’t wait for it to arrive and to start assembling it!

I will be documenting the entire process of building the dollhouse from a kit here on the blog, and I couldn’t possibly do it without my Dad who is far more handy than I am when it comes to working with wood – so I will be working with him to create the dollhouse from the kit when it gets here.

This way, If you ever wondered what it’s really like to build one of these dollhouses from a kit, you’ll know EXACTLY what’s involved from an unbiased unskilled person so you can do it yourself also!
